I think people that rate the Flip negatively need to realize its target audience. I mean, if you want lots of features and professional quality, you shouldn’t even be looking at the Flip. Spend your 00 and buy a nice Canon HD camcorder. Then lug the thing around. But, if you want a simple to use, good quality HD camcorder(and yes 720p is HD…just ask ABC TV), with very easy to use software, then buy this. I did, for my wife, and she loves it. Where as our nice Sony camcorder just sits in …

A sturdy pocket sized camera, the Flip Ultra HD is easy to use and low cost. This is perfect for someone looking for a low profile or easy to carry camera. With weight and size taken into account this camera can film some really great looking videos. The colour display is vibrant, even with only a two inch screen. It has fantastic sound recording and playback, and inbuilt speakers that are very loud and clear. The Ultra HD also has a HDMI port and can suport two AA batteries, unlike all the other Flip cameras. There are some problems with this camera -The base of the camera is unevenly shaped. Because the base isn’t entirely flat when placed on a flat surface it may wobble. This is something to be aware of when using the camera. Though it is to be noted that the camera has not yet fallen when I’ve been using it.Low light situations cause the video quality to degrade. It becomes very grainy. The image stabalization appears to be non-exsistant, so hold the camera very steady to record high quality videos. The camera display has no information on how much power the rechargable battery has left until just before it runs out. Once all the power has left the battery it takes up to 7 hours to fully recharge. Also there is no way to fast forward or rewind while you’re watching a video clip on the camera.I’d hope that lots of these issues will be updated in the next release of the Flip camera. Is it better to wait for the new version, or to try this one? It really depends on what you need. If you want instant recording of what is going on at any moment, this is a great, easy to use, point and shoot camera. However if you are looking for high quality movie recording, then you would be better to go with a different camera. The Flip UltraHD is fun to use, easy to carry, quick to point and shoot and downloads to send easily. UltraHD Overview Most Helpful Customer Reviews: Originally I went in to Best Buy to pick up a Mino HD so I could record studio and location “behind the scenes” photography shoots for my business. The employee I spoke to handed this to me saying “it doesn’t come out for another week, but its cheaper than the Mino that is on sale”. It was a no-brainer for me to pick up. Its a nice little unit; compact, fits in my back pocket if needed, and the controls are very basic – click da big red button to record. Click da big red button again to stop. Simplicity at its finest. I love that the unit has a USB built right in, but I still use a USB extension because I’m using an iMac, and since it ends up hanging upside down, I don’t want to add stress to the USB prong. I haven’t used the built-in editing software, as I’m importing my files into iMovie and editing from that. Quality wise, I’d say is pretty darn good considering its about the size of a box of Necco valentine sweet-hearts candy. However, I must insist that it is to be used as a stationary “fixed” lens, and not to use the digital zoom. Once that digital zoom is used, the quality, like *any* digital zoom, suffers greatly. To circumvent this, I’ve super-glued a step-down ring to the front of my Ultra HD so I can screw on a wide angle and a telephoto lens. If you don’t mind Frankenstein-ing your Ultra HD, then go for it. I haven’t done much low-light shooting with it, but I have a feeling that it could get somewhat noisy and grainy. I’ll see more results soon when I start using this inside the studio. I’ll be mainly using my Ultra HD on a tripod to record behind-the-scenes footage of my photography sessions, so I’ll have a way of keeping the camcorder static and not moving around a lot. Overall, I feel this is greatly worth the $199 I paid. You have to remember that this is a dinky little device with a tiny sensor in it, so the quality won’t be as good as a larger dedicated video camera, or one of the newer DSLR’s with the built in high-def. Apples to Oranges. With a little extra cash and some super-glue, you can get more reach and wide angle out of the unit. Great little unit. Don’t come in to this expecting a goose that lays golden eggs. For what it is, it does well. Recommended. By Albert H. FlipInFocus.com is all about getting the most from your Flip camcorder. In June, 2009, Flip Video introduced the Flip UltraHD, with a rechargeable battery, 2 hour video capacity, and tactile controls that resemble the Flip Ultra, but with 720p HD video resembling the Flip MinoHD. In this video, we see how the UltraHD compares to the MinoHD.

The Flip UltraHD Camcorder takes an existing technology, the camcorder, and makes it accessible, practical, and a whole lot of fun.
I recently did some street interviews with people asking two simple questions: “Do you own a video camera?” And (2), “How often do you use it?”
What do you think the answers were?
To question number one, the answer was invariably “Yes, I own a video camera.” Since the inception of video cameras, everyone has always wanted one. As prices came down and video cameras became available en masse, almost everybody got one. The first few days these people had their video camera they used it all the time. They would video members of the their family, especially their kids, in all their waking moments.
But then what would happen?
They would put the video camera in the closet and only pull it out for special occasions. When you ask people question number two– “How often do you use it?”– the answer is always “very rarely.”
The Flip Video Camcorder line of products has changed all of this. When you ask people who own a Flip how often they use it, the answer is “all the time!”
Why is this? Why does the Flip succeed where other camcorders fail?
The answer is simple: Flip Video products overcome all of the problems that other video recoders have. These three main problems include portability, ease of operation, and connectivity.
While other camcorders claim to be portable, the fact is that they are not ultra-portable. This is why they end up in the closet. To be truly portable, the device needs to fit comfortably in your purse or pocket. Flip Video achieves this with ease. One mother recently quipped, “It is in my purse all the time ready for any great moments that I want to capture on film. I love it!”
Flip triumphs over the others with ease of use as well.
Other cameras have many buttons to confuse you that you will never use. The Flip has just one main button–push to record. The other feature that you may want to use is the digital zoom. This is also clearly marked on the front. The Flip’s ease of use is truly unprecedented.
All of this great technology means nothing if it cannot be shared. This is where the Flip truly conquers the competition. With a simple HDMI connection that works with all the Top LCD TVs and a pop-out USB port that enables you to hook it up to your computer, your videos can be shared in the family room, emailed, or placed on Youtube in a matter of moments. The connectivity is just that easy.
On top of all that, the HD video quality is outstanding.
If you want an easy way to record and share your Christmas Holiday gathering, the Flip UltraHD is easily the best choice.
